Tapi

The newly born Tapi district has Vyara as a district headquarter and is situated on the eastern belt of Surat district which had over 90% of tribal population. The new district has got 5 tehsils 1) Vyara 2) Valod 3) Songadh 4) Ucchal 5) Nizar which contains around 521 villages, total population is 4995174, has Male-2722535 and Female-2272635. The main places of interest of visitors are Ukai Dam, the historical Shiva temple and Ashram of Sharbhang rishi, temple of Gosaimata. It is said that on the bank of Ambika River, God Rama had done a ritual and its ash is still available there. Mythology mentions Padmadungari as Madmavati Town. Govt. authority has developed eco-tourism for development of this area. They organize seminars and different activities on environment. There is a historical Songadh fort in the songadh tehsil which is around 28 km from Vyara town. On the east, next to Ucchal there is a boarder of Maharashtra and there is a combined railway station of Ucchal and Navapur of Maharashtra. Nizar is 105 km from Vyara.
